SHIBARI
JAPANESE ROPE BONDAGE
There may be different forms of bondage but one of those that is so very intriguing and artistic is that of Shibari, Japanese Rope Bondage. Kinbaku which is the meaning of Japanese Rope Art, is closely related and comes underneath the same heading as Japanese Bondage. The background behind Shibari stems from the martial art skill Hojojutsu, which was used by military to restrain their captives. Although some of the techniques originated from Hojojutsu, sexual rope bondage is far gentler and safety advised. A strong influence on Shibari also stems from the Sengoku era of Japan , a darker part of their history where torture and execution were to play. Bondage as a sexual and art form happened in the 1900's and became popular in the 1950's in magazines and even pinup models. In the 1960's the tradition of Shibari as a performance art in Japan was vastly developing. Nowadays the western BDSM has become quite familiar with Rope Bondage as well.
Shibari is uniquely used for bondage in the way that it does not only immobilize and hold a particular position but it is considered a body adornment and serves pleasure from the pressure and strain the ropes pull individual body parts. Like the squeezing of the breasts or the force against the genitals. For a bondage lover the ropes around their body are sensed as pleasurable and erotic and might find themselves wearing them underneath their everyday clothes. Found to be an art form Shibari is an erotic and intense sexual experience.
Different techniques of Shibari
Karada - meaning body in Japanese, full body bondage and karada kikkou means tortoise, this stands for the pattern that the rope makes on the body, net bondage. In this techniques the rope can tie over the whole body including the legs or it can be tied over just the torso of the body.
Shinju - meaning pearls in Japanese, referring to the breasts and nipples. In this case the rope passes over and under the breasts slightly lifting and squeezing them giving a unique stimulation. The are variant ways to tie shinju like, with or without a halter, including or not including the arms, it depends on the purpose.
Sukaranbo - meaning cherry in Japanese, relating to the term of chastity belt. The rope is wrapped around the waist and then threaded through the legs, pressing on the genitals.
As with many bondage practices safety should always be a concern, taking care not to cause injury or harm to your partner. Of course when ropes are tied around the body there is risk of circulation being cut off or muscles being pulled, stretched to far. Some definite safety awareness.
Never leave someone tied up alone!
If a body part gets cold or starts to turn blue, untie your partner immediately
Have a safe word or action that you have both agreed on A rope should never be tied around someone's neck
Have a release tool handy just in case e.g. a knife or scissors
Some of the images I came across while looking this bondage art up are extremely erotic and create a real sense of a different kind of bondage, unique.
